About the Society of Singers Choir
Sharing the Gift of Song
Our choir has been singing together since 1972. We are a friendly, non-profit group of about 40 people, whose mission is to bring the gift of music into the lives of seniors. We perform concerts once or twice a month at Retirement Residences. Our four-part (SATB) repertoire includes selections from classical compositions to show tunes to popular pieces, with seasonal and ethnic songs added occasionally to suit the time of year and the concert venue.
No auditions are necessary to join our group. All you need is a love of singing and the willingness to practice the music outside our normal rehearsal times.
Those rehearsals take place on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. from September through June at Blythwood Church (see map), which offers a bright, airy practice venue and ample free parking. Our Musical Director, Mr. Peter Ness, is a most supportive teacher who sets the right tone during our two-hour sessions: serious musical focus within a relaxed social atmosphere.
Please feel free to drop by and talk with us personally at the start of any rehearsal, or Contact Us by phone or email.
Musical Director Peter Ness
Peter is a classically trained pianist, experienced conductor, producer, arranger and composer. He has an ARCT in piano from The Royal Conservatory of Music, and has played for (among others) the Second City Touring Company and Kid Bastien’s Camelia Jazz Band. He was also the in-house pianist for the West End Vegetarian Restaurant for over 10 years.
Since 2006 he has served — most capably — as arranger, conductor and accompanist for the Society of Singers.
